Example of a Paragraph

            Topic sentence: One of the things that make our country unique

is that we have 50 different states, and the state of Hawaii is

extremely different. Main Idea #1: The first thing that makes  

Hawaii different is its island geography. Detail: Hawaii is the only  

United State that is an island; there are 137 total islands. Detail: Of all

the islands there are eight main ones that people live on. Main Idea

#2: Another feature of Hawaii being special is that it was made

by volcanoes. Detail: Due to some of these volcanoes being active

there may be earthquakes on the islands. Detail: One volcano that is

currently active with flowing lava makes Hawaii’s land size larger

every day. Main Idea #3: The final interesting fact about  

Hawaii is its climate. Detail: Since it is located in the tropical zone of

the Pacific Ocean the weather near sea level is warm all year long.  

Detail: Due to the volcanic mountains there is snow in the highest

elevations. Conclusion: Overall, I see Hawaii as a state with very

interesting features unlike other states.
